Frequently Asked Questions

Do professionals still use briefcases?

+ -

Yes! Leather briefcases have been a traditional accessory for professionals, especially in the legal, finance, and business sectors, to carry important documents, laptops, tablets, and other essential items. While some professionals have transitioned to using backpacks or messenger bags, these luxury leather bags still hold a certain level of professionalism and formality, especially for those in more traditional or conservative industries.

Today, there are many modern and stylish briefcase designs available that incorporate features like laptop sleeves, multiple compartments, and comfortable shoulder straps, making them more versatile and practical for everyday use. Our functional briefcases are a perfect example.

What's the difference between an attaché case and a briefcase?

+ -

An attaché case and a leather briefcase are both types of portable cases that are used to carry documents, laptops, and other essentials. However, there are some differences between the two:

Firstly, structure - The attaché case is generally slimmer and narrower than a leather briefcase. It has a boxy, rectangular shape with sharp edges, and usually features a hard-shell exterior made of leather, aluminium, or plastic. On the other hand, a briefcase has a more rounded shape and a softer, more flexible exterior made of leather or fabric.

Secondly, function - Attaché cases are typically used to carry documents and files and may have slots or compartments specifically designed for holding papers. In contrast, a leather briefcase is more versatile and can be used to carry a wider range of items, including laptops, tablets, and personal items like phones and wallets.

Lastly, formality - Attaché cases are often considered more formal and traditional than leather briefcases, and are commonly used by professionals in conservative industries such as law or finance. Leather Briefcases, on the other hand, can be used in a wider range of settings and are suitable for professionals in various industries.

You’d be pleased to know that our functional bags can be seen as a hybrid of both due to our modern design along with considered interiors. Explore our leather briefcases, folios, shoulder bags and more to find your ideal unisex leather bag.

Do you use Top Grain or Full Grain Leather?

+ -

Our leather briefcases and other functional bags use top-grain leather. Top-grain leather is not necessarily second to full-grain leather, as each type of leather has its own set of advantages and disadvantages.

Full-grain leather comes from the top layer of the hide and includes all of the natural grain. Top grain leather means that the topmost layer of full grain leather is buffed to remove surface imperfections and further embossed with a fine print. This results in a nice, sleek appearance, The embossing process also makes the surface more scratch resistant.

What types of leather do you offer?

+ -

The majority of our luxury leather bags and luxury small leather goods use Epsom and Pebble Grain embossed leather (TXT aka Textured). We have vegetable-tanned leather (SMO aka Smooth) options.

Established international luxury houses have been around for decades, with some boasting over a century’s worth of heritage to their name. This would most certainly result in them having a greater understanding when it comes to leather options.

Whilst they always use high-quality leather, it isn’t restricted to only full-grain leather. Our Top Grain cowhide is similar to the ones that they have used or are currently using. Newer leather brands, on the other hand, tend to choose full-grain leather over top-grain leather.

At the end of the day, we selected the most suitable leather type to reflect the kind of product we wanted to create: a polished and sleek appearance, a lighter leather due to the numerous compartments of our luxury leather bags and a leather that is less complex to work with.

Is real leather more durable?

+ -

Yes, real leather is generally more durable than synthetic leather or other materials. Leather is a natural material that is strong and tough, making it more resistant to wear and tear. It can withstand regular use and last for a long time if properly cared for. However, the quality and durability of leather can vary depending on the type of leather, the tanning process used, and the overall quality of the product. It's important to choose high-quality leather and take care of it properly to ensure its longevity.

What are the weaknesses of leather?

+ -

While leather is a durable material, it also has some weaknesses that should be considered:

Firstly, leather can be damaged by water, which can cause it to become discoloured or even cracked. If you are often outdoors or live in a place with a wet climate, it is important to pick the right luxury bag. Leather can also be prone to staining, especially lighter-coloured leather.

Secondly, leather can also be damaged by prolonged exposure to sunlight. UV rays can cause the leather to fade, dry out, and become brittle over time.

Leather can also be easily scratched or scuffed, which can detract from its appearance. Due to the processes behind making luxury leather bags, leather is also less accessible to some consumers due to price.

How do you care for luxury leather bags?

+ -
  • Avoid direct and prolonged contact with water.
  • Always wipe off any water droplets as soon as possible with a soft cloth.
  • Leave the leather to dry naturally.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to heat.
  • Prolonged exposure will dry out the leather.
  • Frequently buff the leather with a soft cloth.
  • Regular polishing with a leather cream will help to maintain its suppleness and minimise scratches and abrasions.

How do I choose the right size for my luxury leather goods?

+ -

Choosing the right size for your luxury leather goods depends on the specific product you are purchasing. However, here are some general guidelines that can help:

It is important to know the purpose that you are buying it for; whether it’s for work, travel or play. This will help determine the functions you’re looking for. For example, our Atlas bag is suitable for everyday use but also features a trolley slot strap for short getaways. Our luxury leather briefcases on the other hand are perfect for work trips and also have various compartments for all your gadgets and essentials. It is also important to consider the items you would bring and if there are a lot of wires or gadgets - make sure that your luxury leather bag can house your laptop or tablet. Styling is also important in terms of the look you’re going for. Most websites provide you with the dimensions of the product, this will help decide if it fits your height and size. With regards to small leather luxury goods, it is also important to choose the right size depending on where you would keep them as well as the size of your currency bills.

What is the return policy for luxury leather goods?

+ -

Return/Exchange requests can be made only if they satisfy the conditions listed under our Warranty Terms. This warranty only covers workmanship faults and material defects under responsible use. This warranty does not cover the natural ageing of materials, normal wear and tear or if you change your mind. The warranty does not cover purchases made on online auction sites or other unauthorised resellers. Do note that shipping/transportation charges may apply accordingly. If any defects are noticed upon receipt, the product should remain unused. Once used, no exchange is applicable.

Can luxury leather goods be repaired if damaged?

+ -

Yes, they can. While this depends on the extent of damage and the type of material used to make the product, some common types of repairs include:

Stitching repairs: If a seam or stitching comes undone, it can often be resewn.

Patching: If the leather has a small hole or tear, it can sometimes be patched with a piece of matching leather and glue or stitching.

Reconditioning: Leather can become dry and cracked over time, but it can often be reconditioned with leather cream or oil that will restore its softness and suppleness.

Replacement parts: If a hardware component, such as a zipper or buckle, is damaged, it can often be replaced with a new one. Having said so, not all leather repairs are simple - some types of leather damage may be too extensive to repair, in which case it may make more sense to replace the item altogether.

It is worth exploring repair options for luxury leather goods before replacing them, as these items are often high-quality and can last for many years with proper care and maintenance.

Is Vegetable Tanned Leather Real Leather?

+ -

Yes, vegetable-tanned leather is real leather. It is a type of leather that is tanned using natural materials such as tree bark, rather than synthetic chemicals.

Here are two benefits of choosing vegetable-tanned leather:

  1. Durability: Vegetable-tanned leather is known for its durability and strength, making it a great choice for leather goods that will be used frequently. It is also resistant? to wear and tear, so it can last for many years without showing signs of damage.

  2. Environmental sustainability: Because vegetable-tanned leather is tanned using natural materials, it is often considered a more sustainable choice than leather that is tanned using synthetic chemicals. Vegetable tanning is also a slower and more labour-intensive process, which can help support traditional craft techniques and local communities.

Is vegetable-tanned leather better?

+ -

Whether or not vegetable-tanned leather is better depends on personal preferences and the intended use of the leather. However, there are some unique benefits of choosing this style of leather:

  1. Aesthetic appeal: Vegetable-tanned leather has a unique and natural aesthetic that sets it apart from other types of leather. Over time, the leather will develop a beautiful patina that adds character and charm to the product.

  2. Health and safety: Vegetable-tanned leather is often considered a safer and healthier choice than leather that is tanned using synthetic chemicals. Unlike chemically treated leather, vegetable-tanned leather does not contain harmful toxins or carcinogenic substances.

  3. Customization: Vegetable-tanned leather is highly customizable, as it can be easily dyed or stamped to create unique designs and patterns. This makes it a great choice for personalized leather goods or products that require a specific colour or style.
