Leather is essentially skin – it has natural oils that will dry out and get damaged when exposed to environmental elements. Hence, caring and maintaining your Faire Leather Co. product is important if you want it to remain in pristine condition for years to come. It has been 10 months since we launched Faire Leather Co., and I felt that it was about time to provide you guys with some basic information and instructions on how to care for your product. For those that wish to take leather care to the next level, we recommend our newly launched Leather Care Kit.

Before I go on to some of the main points of leather care, I would recommend that you read one of my earlier blogposts on the types of leather that we have used so far for our products here.

1. CLEANING

In order to remove dirt from the surface of your leather product, gently wipe it with a soft (slightly damp) cloth.

To ensure a more thorough clean, our Faire Leather Co. Leather Care Kit provides you with both a microfibre cleaning cloth and a leather cleaning solution.

Microfibre Cleaning Cloth 

I have chosen this because it is generally quite absorbent, hence exceptionally effective at picking up dust and grease.

Some useful tips: It is best to rinse your cleaning cloth and air dry after each use. Do not use fabric softener or bleach on your cleaning cloth.

Leather Spot Cleaner

The cleaner is made from plant-derived cleaning agents, mineral-based pH balancers and Tea Tree Oil Extract. The use of all-natural, plant-based ingredients means that it is gentle on the leather whilst removing dirt and surface stains (it also inhibits mold formation).

2. CONDITIONING

Leather cream is basically a skin conditioner - regular use will help to maintain its suppleness and minimise scratches and abrasions. Our Faire Leather Co. leather cream is a semi-thick wax conditioner made from triple-filtered beeswax, a unique blend of seed oils and naturally-occurring lipids.

It not only restores the leather, but protects it as well (even allowing for a certain degree of waterproofing). Buff your product regularly using the cleaning cloth to polish to a nice shine.

To Note:

• ALWAYS clean and dry the product first before applying the leather cream
• Do NOT use the leather cream on suede, nubuck or pull-up leathers

3. MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE

Avoid direct and prolonged contact with water

If your product does come into contact with water, wipe off any water droplets as soon as possible with a soft cloth and leave the leather to dry naturally or it might leave unsightly stains on the leather.

Avoid prolonged exposure to heat

The natural oils in leather will dry out when exposed to the natural elements - exposure to heat accelerates this process.

Use dust bag provided

Your product should be stored in a nice clean, breathable bag to prevent the growth of bacteria and mold.
